Sun Windows - Press Release

Sun Windows Powder Coating
Obtains AAMA 2604 & 2605 Accreditation
February 8, 2011

Sun Windows, in conjunction with AkzoNobel, has completed the certification process for its Powder Coating finish and has received accreditation for AAMA 2604 (High Durability) and 2605 (Coastal Applications) Exterior Finish standards.

AAMA 2604 & 2605 are voluntary specifications that cover factory-applied organic spray coatings. They are designed to assist the architect, owner and contractor in specifying coatings which will provide and maintain a high level of performance in terms of film integrity, exterior weatherability and general appearance over a period of many years. Among the general specifications for this certification are the quality of the coatings visual appearance (no streaks, flow lines, blisters or surface imperfections visible at a set distance) and the thickness of the film (or coating). More specifically, the coating is subject to a series of tests to establish the uniformity of the color, the gloss value, the hardness of the dry film (or coating), the film adhesion, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, and weathering.

Sun's 2604 finish warranty covers clad exteriors for 20 years against peeling, flaking, blistering, cracking, checking and loss of adhesion and 10 years against chalking and color change. Sun's 2605 finish is warranted for 30 and 15 years, respectively.
