Energy Tax Credit 2009/2010

The economic stimulus bill, signed by President Obama, includes tax credit incentives to promote energy efficiency. The bill includes provisions for up to $1,500 in tax credits to homeowners for the installation of qualifying energy efficient products.

With the new stimulus plan, the qualifications for a tax credit are more rigid than ever. Windows and patio doors must provide high levels of energy efficiency in two categories: reduced heat loss and reduced heat gain. The measurement for heat loss, or U-Factor, and the measurement for heat gain the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC), must both have an over-all rating of 0.30 or lower to qualify for the new tax credit.

This new tax credit is for 30% of the amount paid for the product up to a maximum of $1500 combined for 2009 and 2010. The tax credit is for the cost of the product only and does not include installation costs. A sales receipt must be included which shows the cost of the product only.
