Window Opening Control Device

Safety around open windows is always important, especially concerning children. New codes are being implemented to regulate the operation of windows to prevent falls. Window Opening Control Devices have been developed and are now available to help meet these codes and safety concerns. The devices are designed to automatically limit the amount of sash opening when a window is initially opened, but also allow an adult to easily by-pass the limit when needed. Please check your local building codes to determine your requirements.

Window Opening Control Device - Vinyl Double Hung

Sun Vinyl Double Hungs have the option of having the sash opening limited by our Window Opening Control Device, also referred to as a WOCD. The device automatically limits the opening of the sash to a narrow opening, but it can also be by-passed or disengaged by an adult when more opening is wanted or needed.

Operation
1. The device is automatically set to limit the sash operation unless it deactivated by someone wishing to open the window. Open the sash and the WOCD stops it at the limited height.
2. To by-pass the limit, press the WOCD limiter inward. It is spring-loaded and part of the tab will protrude out from the surface of the device even in the by-pass position. Raise the sash upward and it will now continue past the limiter. Raise to desired height.
3. Closing the sash automatically re-activates the limiter.

Colors / Finishes
The WOCD is available in White. It is visible on the face of the side rail of the top sash.

Installation
There are two versions of the WOCD for the Single Hung. One is designed to be mounted on the interior face of the window frame. The other is designed to be mounted on the side of the jamb. In most cases, the jamb mount version will work best. It allows for wood jamb extensions or drywall returned to the face of the frame. The other version will only work in unique applications with special trim treatment. Due to the way these are designed, Sun recommends installing the WOCD on the Single Hung after the window has been installed. See our Installation Videos (videos page) for instructions on how to install the WOCDs.
