The SunClad USA Casement line offers refined style and function in high-performance windows. The plain profile of the sash exterior with its mitered corners and deep glazing stop provides a simple but classic appeal.

Our SunClad exterior uses heavy-gauge extruded aluminum for strength, durability and resistance to weather and abuse. It is coated with a highly durable, baked on Powder Coat finish that meets AAMA 2604 standards. The coating is available in 11 Standard colors, 26 Feature finishes and several Metallic and Anodic finishes. Custom color matching is also available. All SunClad products are designed with a fail-safe Water Management System. The exterior perimeter of the glass is sealed against water intrusion. However, if that seal should ever fail, our Water Management system provides an effective drain path (to the exterior) for water to exit the glazing channel and sash structure. This helps protect the insulated glass against seal failure and the wood interior of the window against deterioration. The exterior frame includes Sun's integral nail fin for stable installation and our accessory groove that allows for the application of various exterior trim options, including clad brick mold, wide trim profiles and more.

The window interior features clear ponderosa pine that is suitable for a natural (clear) finish, staining or painting. The sash profile is kept narrow to maximize the daylight opening. A single crank operator, with fold-away style handle, is located on the sill to open and close the sash. A single latch lever is located on the side jamb to unlock (and lock) the sash. One or more latching points are activated by the lever, depending on the size of the window. Hinges are adjustable for sash alignment.

Grille systems are available in a range of styles, sizes and patterns for visually dividing the glass area and providing a decorative design accent. This includes Sun's Simulated Divided Lite (SDL), Interior Wood Grille and GBGs (grilles between the glass). Interior mounted screens featuring BetterVue™ screen mesh are available for the operating windows, along with a roll-away retractable style screen. Blinds between the glass are available for dust-free view and light control.

As with all SunClad products, the USA Casement family is designed and built to provide superior energy saving performance. Full perimeter weather-stripping and secure sash closure provide an air-tight seal. Select one of our climate-targeted, Low-E insulated glass configurations to take advantage of Sun's best energy performance combination for your region. All Sun IG units use the Duralite™ warm-edge spacer system, a non-metallic spacer that provides the lowest thermal conductivity and best gas retention of any IG spacer system.

SunClad USA windows are covered by our extensive warranty and are hand crafted to provide you with high quality, dependable windows that will serve you and your home for many years.

Casement Operation

SunClad™ Casement Operation

SunClad™ Casements have a sash that fills the whole frame opening of the window. The sash opens to the exterior of the building by means of a hand crank operator that is located on the window sill. The sash pivots on top and bottom hinge assemblies that allow the sash to open to near perpendicular position. These hinges are adjustable to fine-tune the operation of the sash. The sash latches closed with multiple latching points (depending on the size of the window) that are activated by a single lever located on one of the side jambs. The direction of the sash opening can be ordered as either left or right hinging, as viewed from the outside. Since Casement sash hinges are pivot points at the top and bottom of the sash, there is slight space between the edge of the sash and the "hinged" side of the frame when the sash is fully opened. The other side, where the sash latches, swings away from the frame. A fixed sash (non-opening) is also available. Specify the direction of sash operation when you place your order. It is important to note that the hinging side is always identified as viewed from the outside or exterior of the building.

Sun Clad Extruded Aluminum Exterior

SunClad™ Extruded Aluminum Exterior

SunClad™ is the name we give our heavy-gauge extruded aluminum exterior on our clad-wood products. Aluminum is highly resistant to the effects of weather. It does not rust like other metal. It does not rot or decay, warp or distort like wood. It does not break down chemically over time like vinyl or fiberglass. Our heavy gauge extruded aluminum will not easily dent like Roll Form aluminum wrapped over a wood sash exterior. It provides exceptional strength and long life for the product and it is the perfect surface for our High Durability Powder Coat Finish.

• Superior Strength - for the frame and sash
• More Durable - protects interior wood components
• Protects the Home better
• Fail-Safe Water Management System - weeps water from frame and sash components
• Integral Nailing Fin - permanent fin is part of the frame
• High-Durability Powder Coat Factory Finish

Integral Nail Fin

Integral Nail Fin

SunClad™ products are designed with a rigid nail fin that is formed as an integral part of the exterior frame extrusion. This provides for a very strong and stable installation. The nail fin can be scored and removed for mulling and retro-fit applications.

Fail-Safe Water Management System
Water Management System

Fail-Safe Water Management System

All SunClad products are designed with a Fail-Safe Water Management System. The exterior perimeter of the glass is sealed against water intrusion. However, because aluminum, glass and wood all expand and contract at different rates, we design our Fail-Safe Water Management System to provide an effective drain path (to the exterior) for water to exit the glazing channel and sash structure. This prevents water or moisture from becoming trapped within the sash, which helps protect the insulated glass against seal failure and the wood interior of the window against deterioration.

Powder Coat Finish
Powder Coat

High Durability Powder Coat Finish

Sun uses high durability powder coating as the exterior finish of our SunClad products. It is tougher than conventional painted finishes. The powder is electrostatically applied to aluminum extrusions that have been washed and prepared in a multi-stage pre-treatment process. The applied powder is baked on to the extrusion which is ready for production shortly after leaving the oven. Our standard finish meets AAMA 2604 requirements and allows us to provide a 20 year warranty against peeling, flaking, blistering, cracking, checking and loss of adhesion and a 10 year warranty against chalking and color change. An optional AAMA 2605 finish is also available and offers a 30/15 year warranty respectively. Sun offers 11 Standard Colors, 26 Feature Colors, 15 Metallic Finishes and 6 Anodic Finishes. Additionally, virtually any color you want is available through Custom Color Matching. Sun's Powder Coating is also very environmentally friendly, with no VOCs and no lead or chromium in any of the processes.

Sun's Insulated Glass

All Sun products are glazed with Dual Glazed insulated glass. All of Sun's Hi-Performance Low-E Insulated Glass units are Argon filled and feature the Duralite™ warm-edge glass spacer system. Both dual glazed (using two pieces of glass) and triple glazed (using three pieces of glass) are available (depending on the product type). Tempered insulated glass units (both glass pieces) are standard on all door units. Sun manufactures these units in our own state-of-the-art insulated glass production facility, allowing us to produce the high quality insulated glass units for each order. Duralite™ Warm-Edge Spacer

Duralite™ Warm-Edge Spacer System

All Sun insulated glass units use the Duralite™ warm-edge glass spacer system. Duralite is the only all non-metallic spacer system available. This gives superior thermal performance and its flexible properties provide a superior seal and excellent argon retention. It is one of the reasons we are able to provide a full 20 year warranty on our insulated glass.

Lead Times For Options

Since all Sun products are built to order, we offer a wide range of options for you to customize your windows and doors to meet your needs. Some of these options are part of the standard production flow while others are more specialized and may require additional time to produce. When a quote is created for your order, any extended lead times are indicated. This can assist you in planning your project and help you coordinate your workflow.

Casement Configurations

SunClad™ Casement Configurations

SunClad™ Casements are available as single units or in mulled units up to 5 units wide. Individual units can be configured as operating casements or fixed units (sash set fixed lites). The operating windows can be ordered as left or right hinged, as viewed from the outside.

Casement Configurations

Any combination of operating and fixed units can be joined into a mulled unit. Example: you can order a 4 window unit with all operating casements and have the operation of the units be (in left to right order, as viewed from the outside) / left hinged / left hinged / right hinged / right hinged /. The individual units can be the same width or different widths. The main restriction is that the overall combined unit width cannot exceed 12' and the height cannot exceed 8'. Larger combinations may be mulled on site. Please note that mulled units are not designed to take the place of structural framing. In some instances it is better to order your units "aligned" but not mulled. This means that they will be built with the proper grille alignment to be installed beside or above each other, but the wall will have structural framing separating the units into smaller combinations or single units. More information on combination units is available under Mulls and Mulling.

Hardware - Casement

Casement Hardware Options

SunClad™ USA Casement hardware consists of a hand-crank operator with a fold-out handle that is mounted on the sill of the window, a sash gliding-hinge system and side mounted sash latching lever. The sash opens toward the outside up to 90° for maximum ventilation. The sash can also be removed if needed by disengaging the top and bottom guide arms (tool needed) and sliding the sash out of the hinge track.

The operator housing cover and handle and the latching lever handle cover are available in three standard and three optional finishes. The optional finishes require additional time and an upcharge.

Standard = White, Tan, Faux Oil-Rubbed Bronze
Optional = Antique Brass, Brushed Chrome, Brushed Nickel

Operating Direction
Casement window sashes open toward the outside. Their direction of opening (or their hinge side) can be ordered as left or right, as viewed from outside.

Egress Hardware Option

SunClad™ USA Casement standard operating hardware provides clearance on the hinge side that may allow cleaning of the exterior glass surface from indoors. Our optional Egress Hardware moves the hinge pivot point near to the edge of the jamb. The benefit of this is realized with certain window sizes, as it can provide enough additional clear opening width to satisfy some egress codes without having to go to a wider window. Please refer to the Casement Dimensions Sheet for the clear opening specifications. Note: using Egress Hardware does not guarantee that the window will meet your code requirements. Please refer to your code and compare those requirements with our dimensions sheet.

Window Opening Control Device - Casement

Window Opening Control Device - Clad Casement

SunClad™ USA Casements have the option of having the sash opening limited by our Window Opening Control Device, also referred to as a WOCD. The device automatically limits the opening of the sash to a narrow opening, but it can also be by-passed or disengaged by an adult when more opening is wanted or needed.

1. Open the sash fully to the limit.
2. Slide the top Red Cover up.
3. With the Red Cover held in the up position, rotate the Orange Tab upward.
4. Crank open the sash to disengage the limiter and open to amount desired.

Note: the device will automatically re-engage itself when you close the window.

Colors / Finishes
The WOCD is primarily stainless steel with red and orange operating tabs. It is not visible when the window is in the closed position.

SDL or Simulated Divided Lite, is an aluminum grille bar permanently applied to the exterior glass surface and a wood grille permanently applied to the interior glass surface. A black shadow bar is sealed between the glass. This simulates old divided lite windows without sacrificing the benefits of a single insulated glass unit. Available in 5/8", 1" , 1-1/4" and 2-1/4" (simulated mull) wide profiles. Also available in a Raised (Putty Glazed) bar profile in 5/8" and 1-1/4".

Simulated Check Rail is a variation of our SDL using a wide 2-1/4" bar horizontally across a Casement or Fixed Lite window to simulate the look of a Double Hung window.

Simulated Mull is another variation of our SDL using a wide 2-1/4" bar vertically. One or two of these can be placed in the center of a wide Casement or Fixed Lite to simulate the look of two windows joined together or two sashes side by side.

Wood Grille (Push-Pin style)
This removable wood grille mounts to the window interior. Grille clips with push-pin points slide in notches at the end of each grille bar to fasten the grille to the window. Removing the grille makes it easier to clean the glass. Wood grilles are available in 1" and 1-1/4" wide profiles.

Wood Grille (Surround style)
Also available is a wood surround grille that has wood frame around the perimeter of the grille. This inserts into the daylight opening of the sash and is held in place by an anchor pin.

GBG (Grilles Between Glass) are 3/4" contoured profiled aluminum grilles sealed within the insulated glass unit for no-maintenance convenience. Available in White, Vanilla, Beige, Sand, Bronze, Black, Green and Red colors. They are also available in two color combinations (one color facing the interior the other facing the exterior) of White/Sand and White/Bronze.

Blinds Between The Glass
Blinds Between The Glass Options

Blinds Between The Glass

We believe that window treatments, like blinds and drapes, are best when approached as separate components. Your decorating choices, as well as the functionality of these items, are greatly enhanced by manufacturers who specialize in these add-on items.

That being said, some SunClad products are available with Blinds Between the Glass. They offer the privacy and adjustable daylight control that typical add-on blinds provide with the additional benefit of minimal exposure of the blinds to the indoor environment. This can help protect your blinds from dust and handling damage. However, when blinds are placed between the glass, you loose the ability to have a grille system. Additionally, interior screens (on casement windows) must be removed to operate the blinds. Maintenance and service is also complicated by using these systems.

For those who insist on having Blinds Between the Glass, Sun offers the option of an aluminum blind system that is housed between the insulated glass unit and a removable interior glass panel. This protects the blinds from dust and damage from being handled. Only the angle of blind slats can be adjusted. They cannot be raised out of the viewing area. A magnetic operator, located on the removable glass panel, activates the blinds. Screens may be used with the blind system, but they must be removed to adjust the blinds. Available slat colors are white, alabaster, and sand. Glass panel frame colors are white or sand. The blind operator color is white.

Product Combinations
SunClad™ products can be combined with companion products to form special feature windows or window and door combinations. SunClad™ products are designed so that they can be easily grouped together to form multi-unit configurations. These configurations can be as simple as combining two units together, side by side, to form a 2-wide unit, or as complex as combining multiple units of various styles and shapes to form a special feature window wall. Send us your ideas and we will help you configure your special combination.

Mulled Unit Dimensions
When mulling SunClad products together, the over-all unit size can be determined by adding the product unit sizes together. For combinations of 3 units or more, an incidental gain may occur. Increase the Rough Opening dimension by 1/8" for 3 units or 3/16" for four units.

Mulled Unit Restrictions
The maximum over-all size for a factory mulled unit cannot exceed 12' by 8' (vertical or horizontal).
Maximum units wide = 5
Maximum units high = 4
Maximum Door Mulled Unit = 6-0 x 6-8 with Call Height 12 Transom
No units can be mulled to the sides of True French Doors. Use separate framing.

Exterior Mull Covers
Exterior Mull Covers for mulling windows on the job site. Include exterior mull cover only. (Installation is not provided).
