Sliding Door Operation

Sliding Doors, as the name implies, have an operating door panel that slides sideways to open and close. The opening panel can be ordered as either the Left or Right Active Panel as viewed from the exterior. A single point latch handle comes standard with the door. A sliding screen, that slides to cover the opening when desired, is also available.

Clad Extruded Aluminum Exterior

This products uses heavy-gauge extruded aluminum for its exterior frame and sash/panel components. Aluminum is highly resistant to the effects of weather. It does not rust like other metal. It does not rot or decay, warp or distort like wood. It does not break down chemically over time like vinyl or fiberglass. Heavy gauge extruded aluminum will not easily dent like Roll Form aluminum wrapped over a wood sash exterior. It provides exceptional strength and long life for the product and it is an excellent surface for its factory applied baked on finish.

Wood Interior

Sun door interiors feature finger-jointed ponderosa pine on the frame, LVL (laminated veneer lumber) on the panel rails and stiles. The wood interior is suitable for a natural (clear) finish, staining or painting. The standard door panel is considered a full glass door, with the side stiles and top & bottom rails measuring about 5" in width.

Optional solid panel inserts, or kick panels, are available to reduce the glass portion of the door panel. These solid panels are beveled wood on the interior with a flat SunClad exterior surface. An additional decorative aluminum molding shadow box can be applied to the exterior of the panel as a visual accent.

Tempered Insulated Glass

All Sun door products are glazed with Dual Glazed Tempered insulated glass as standard (both pieces of glass are tempered). All of Sun's Hi-Performance Low-E Insulated Glass units are Argon filled and feature the Duralite™ warm-edge glass spacer system. Sun manufactures these units in our own state-of-the-art insulated glass production facility, allowing us to produce the high quality insulated glass units for each order. This line is carefully monitored for quality control, glass testing and certification, to assure you that all Sun insulated glass is produced to the highest standards.

Duralite™ Warm-Edge Spacer System

All Sun insulated glass units use the Duralite™ warm-edge glass spacer system. Duralite is the only all non-metallic spacer system available. This gives superior thermal performance and its flexible properties provide a superior seal and excellent argon retention. It is one of the reasons we are able to provide a full 20 year warranty on our insulated glass.

Climate Matched Low-E Glass

Sun Windows offers Energy Saving Low-E glass that is matched to your climate. Select our Sun Advantage 270 Low-E glass if you are in a climate that has a mixture of both heating and cooling seasons. Sun Advantage 270 is a second generation Low-E glass that permits 70% of the sun's visible light while blocking 86% of harmful UV rays. Select Sun Advantage 366 Low-E glass if you are in a climate that has stronger cooling requirements. Sun Advantage 270 is a third generation Low-E glass that reduces the amount of the sun's visible light to 66% while blocking 95% of harmful UV rays. Both types use our Duralite™ Warm-Edge glass spacer and have air spaces that are Argon filled for an insulated glass unit that offers excellent thermal performance.

Reglazable Sash & Panels

All SunClad™ Wood products use interior wood glazing stops that allow for the reglazing of the sash or panel should the glass ever be damaged.

Air-Tight Construction

A combination of our product designs, the materials we use and our manufacturing processes produce windows with outstanding air-infiltration performance. Complete weather-stripping and secure sash closure provide and air-tight seal. Our product air-infiltration ratings out-pace the industry standards and many of our competitors.

Lead Times For Options

Since all Sun products are built to order, we offer a wide range of options for you to customize your windows and doors to meet your needs. Some of these options are part of the standard production flow while others are more specialized and may require additional time to produce. When a quote is created for your order, any extended lead times are indicated. This can assist you in planning your project and help you coordinate your workflow.

Sliding Door Configurations

Sliding Doors are available as 2 panel units, 3 panel units (a 2 panel unit with a Fixed unit mulled to one side), and 4 panel units (with 2 opening panels in the center). The operating panel can be ordered as left or right sliding, as viewed from the outside. See the configurations below.

Sliding Door units may have a Fixed unit mulled next to them. Transoms, Round Tops and Arch Top can be mulled above most door units. The main restriction is that the overall combined unit width cannot exceed 12' and the height cannot exceed 8'. Larger combinations may be mulled on site. Please note that mulled units are not designed to take the place of structural framing. In some instances it is better to order your units "aligned" but not mulled. This means that they will be built with the proper grille alignment to be installed beside or above each other, but the wall will have structural framing separating the units into smaller combinations or single units. Clad Exterior Colors

Sun's High Durability Powder Coat Finish is available in 11 Standard Colors, 26 Feature Colors, 15 Metallic Finishes and 6 Anodic Finishes as well as in Custom Match Colors. You also have the option of using various color combinations to create a unique visual accent.

SunClad™ Exterior Trim & Accessories

An exterior trim system is available on SunClad™ products to enhance the visual appeal of the window and increase the accent they add to the home's exterior. This system includes various SunClad™ aluminum extrusions that can be used by themselves are in combination to form exterior trim (or casing) accents or as exterior mulls and expansion mulls. The profiles include a Traditional Brick Mold, Georgian Brick Mold, 3-1/2" Flat Casing, various mulls and expansion mulls, as well as 30° and 45° angle mulls. All of the extrusions are powder coated to coordinate with the SunClad windows and doors to which they are applied. They can be the same color or in any accent color you select.

The wood interior of all SunClad™ products is available in the following finish options.

Sliding Door Hardware Options

Handle Set
Single Point Latch. Black metal exterior handle. Wood interior handle with black frame. Standard version is not keyed. Keyed version is available.
A secondary foot latch is available.

Hardware Finishes
Standard finish is Black exterior handle and Wood/Black interior.
Optional finishes include: Brass, Antique Brass, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Pewter, Oil Rubbed Bronze.

Glazing Method

All Sun Door products are glazed with Dual Glazed Tempered insulated glass. Two pieces of Tempered glass with a 1/2" sealed airspace.

Glass Types

Most building codes now require thermally efficient insulated glass in windows and doors. Therefore, high-performance Low-E glass has become an industry standard. Sun offers a range of Low-E Insulated Glass units to match maximum thermal benefits with your region.

• ClimaGuard 63/31 is for regions that have both heating and cooling seasons.
• ClimaGuard 55/27 is for regions that require mostly cooling.
• Energy Advantage 63/31 and 55/27 add an additional Low-E surface to the their respective units for even higher thermal performance with the caveat that interior glass is coated and requires specials care when cleaning.
• Clear glass is available for specific applications where energy performance codes do not apply.

Glass Tints

All insulated glass units can be tinted. Tints available are: Bronze, Gray, and Reflective Tinted Glass. Tints are part of the glass, not a film. Never apply glass films to Sun insulated glass units.

Obscure Glass

All insulated glass units can include Obscure glass. Available Obscure textures are: Typical Obscure (P516) and Niagara Obscure (vertical waterfall pattern).

Grille Types

SDL
SDL or Simulated Divided Lite, is an aluminum grille bar permanently applied to the exterior glass surface and a wood grille permanently applied to the interior glass surface. A black shadow bar is sealed between the glass. This simulates old divided lite windows without sacrificing the benefits of a single insulated glass unit. Available in 5/8", 1" , 1-1/4" and 2-1/4" (simulated mull) wide profiles.

SCR
Simulated Check Rail is a variation of our SDL using a wide 2-1/4" bar horizontally across a Casement or Fixed Lite window to simulate the look of a Double Hung window.

SM
Simulated Mull is another variation of our SDL using a wide 2-1/4" bar vertically. One or two of these can be placed in the center of a wide Casement or Fixed Lite to simulate the look of two windows joined together or two sashes side by side.

Wood Grille (Push-Pin style)
This removable wood grille mounts to the window interior. Grille clips with push-pin points slide in notches at the end of each grille bar to fasten the grille to the window. Removing the grille makes it easier to clean the glass. Wood grilles are available in 1" and 1-1/4" wide profiles.

Wood Grille (Surround style)
Also available is a wood surround grille that has wood frame around the perimeter of the grille. This inserts into the daylight opening of the sash and is held in place by an anchor pin.

GBG
GBG (Grilles Between Glass) are 3/4" contoured profiled aluminum grilles sealed within the insulated glass unit for no-maintenance convenience. Available in White, Vanilla, Beige, Sand, Bronze, Black, Green and Red colors. They are also available in two color combinations (one color facing the interior the other facing the exterior) of White/Sand and White/Bronze.

SDL Colors
All SDL options and variations are available using any of our SunClad™ Exterior Color options for the exterior grille bar. The interior wood grille can be finished using any of our interior finish options. The shadow bar is black.

Wood Grille Finish Options
Wood Grilles are available with any of our Interior Wood Finish Options: No Finish, Clear Poly, White Painted, or Custom Painted or Stained.

GBG Colors
Available in White, Vanilla, Beige, Sand, Bronze, Black, Green and Red colors. They are also available in two color combinations (one color facing the interior the other facing the exterior) of White/Sand and White/Bronze.

Sun's Grille systems (see grille types) are available in a various standard Grille Patterns or in custom designed patterns. Please note that not all patterns are available in all grille types and sizes. Manufacturing limitations apply.

Mulls & Mulling

Product Combinations
SunClad™ products can be combined with companion products to form special feature windows or window and door combinations. SunClad™ products are designed so that they can be easily grouped together to form multi-unit configurations. These configurations can be as simple as combining two units together, side by side, to form a 2-wide unit, or as complex as combining multiple units of various styles and shapes to form a special feature window wall. Send us your ideas and we will help you configure your special combination.

Mulled Unit Dimensions
When mulling SunClad products together, the over-all unit size can be determined by adding the product unit sizes together. For combinations of 3 units or more, an incidental gain may occur. Increase the Rough Opening dimension by 1/8" for 3 units or 3/16" for four units.

Mulled Unit Restrictions
The maximum over-all size for a factory mulled unit cannot exceed 12' by 8' (vertical or horizontal).
Maximum units wide = 5
Maximum units high = 4
Maximum Door Mulled Unit = 6-0 x 6-8 with Call Height 12 Transom
No units can be mulled to the sides of True French Doors. Use separate framing.

Exterior Mull Covers
Exterior Mull Covers for mulling windows on the job site. Include exterior mull cover only. (Installation is not provided).

UV Fade Protection for Doors

Put an end to the fading of your carpets, floors, drapes, and interior furnishings from the daylight coming through your doors. Sun Door products are available with UV protection, most by using laminated glass, while a few sizes use Tempered ClimaGuard SPF. Sun laminated glass fulfills the safety requirements of tempered glass as well as much of the same UV protection of our ClimaGuard SPF glass. Since Tempered ClimaGuard SPF is only available for 3-0 x 6-11 or 3-0 x 8-0 door panels, laminate glass provides a great alternative for all other sizes.
