Extruded Aluminum Clad Exterior

Protecting Our Windows and Doors . . . and Your Home

Sun’s heavy-gauge extruded aluminum-clad exterior is highly resistant to the effects of the weather. It does not rust like other metals and does not decay, warp, or distort like wood.

Heavy-gauge extrusions do not dent as easily as typical roll-form aluminum cladding wrapped over a wood core.

Our extrusions provide exceptional strength and long life for the product. They protect the interior wood components of the product while protecting the building.

Sun’s Powder Coating, available in a wide range of colors, provides a highly-durable finish for our window and door exteriors.

Heavy-Gauge Strength

Our heavy-gauge aluminum extrusions are joined to select pine interior components forming strong, rigid frames, sashes, and panels. The wood is protected by the exterior cladding. Together, they provide strength and beauty. Our windows and doors will protect your home while adding an attractive accent inside and out.

Compare Exterior Types

Extruded Aluminum

Sun’s Extruded Aluminum

Sun’s heavy-gauge extruded aluminum exterior extrusions joined to select pine interior components provide the following:

• Superior Strength to sash, panel, and frame
• Excellent weather resistance
• Protects the windows and doors
• Protects the building structure
• Allows for built-in water management system to prevent trapped water damage -  protects wood components and insulated glass
• Powder Coated Finish is a hard, durable, commercial grade, environmentally friendly
• Same finish on the frame, sash, and panels to prevent a mismatch between different substrates and finish appearance

Roll-Form Aluminum over wood

Roll-Form Aluminum

Some of our competitors use thin,roll-form aluminum to cover their wood windows and doors:

• Does not add any strength to the product
• Some resistance to weather
• Weak seams are prone to water penetration
• Does not allow for effective water management system - damage to wood components and insulated glass
• Easily dented or damaged by impact
• Typically factory painted - finish not as durable as powder coating, nor environmentally friendly
• Color inconsistency between sash, panel, and frame due to different substrates and finish appearance

Painted Wood

Painted Wood

Some of our competitors use paint and other similar applied finishes directly to their wood windows and doors:

• Does not add any strength to the product
• Some resistance to weather
• Does not allow for effective water management system - damage to wood components and insulated glass
• Typically has a vinyl exterior glass stop which can look different than the painted wood and age differently than the rest of the sash or panel
• Typical factory painted - finish not as durable as powder coating, nor environmentally friendly
• Color inconsistency between sash, panel, and frame due to different substrates and finish appearance

Vinyl Extrusion

Vinyl

Vinyl can be an effective exterior material:

• Flexible properties of extrusions require reinforcement to make them strong
• Good resistance to weather
• Allows for built-in water management system to prevent trapped water damage -  protects the insulated glass
• Color is part of the vinyl extrusion, same exterior and interior
• Limited color choices
• Painted vinyl is problematic and inferior to other options
